The CTEC 60-Hour Qualifying Tax Education course is for individuals who want to become a Tax Preparer and prepare taxes in the State of California. If you are a resident of California you must complete a 60 hour Qualifying Tax Course in order to register as a California Tax Return Preparer CTRP for the first time.   • The CTEC tax course covers form 1040 and related schedules and forms. Topics include income, gains and losses, adjustments to income, standard and itemized deductions, tax credits, small business income and expenses (including Schedule C), depreciation, and the California Franchise Tax Board form 540. Reading assignments and review questions presented in 22 quizzes will test for knowledge and help make you proficient with the IRS' terminology, guidelines, and procedures. A final four part exam completes the course. Each of the four parts of the final exam need to be passed with a score of 70% or better in order to obtain your Certificate of Completion and meet the 60 hour qualifying tax course requirement.
